Dream Team Lockout and Rookie List

This year, as with last year the AFL has scheduled a Thursday game for the first round. this means that with the teams announced at 5pm on Thursday there will be only 160 minutes between team announcements and AFL Dream Team lockout. Expect the virtualsports servers to crash during this time as an overload of people try to get their teams in. So make sure your Dream Team is in, at least in a form that you will be happy with before the teams are announced. Because of this, The Rushed Behind will not be doing a full rookie breakdown as you want your rookies to be playing round 1. Heres some names for you to consider though:
Backs:
Petrenko(86600)
Suban(86600)
Hill(142600)
Rance(86600)

Mids:
Beams(86600)
Anthony(86600)
Rich(126600)
Dangerfield(115400)
Davenport(86600)
Steven(86600)

Rucks:

Sidebottom(110600)
Walker(86600)
Gumbleton(86600)
Yarran(130600)
Ballantyne(86600)

So theres a list for those who can't be bothered doing any research to pick from (I'm looking at you Danny Boy). I'll post The Rushed Behind Team after round 1 which may have a few from left field (ie. not on my lists of rookies or bargains) because I have to keep some picks to myself or I can't win the competition can I?

In other Dream Team news, bargain ruckman Robbie Warnock has been put on the long term injury list by Carlton, thus ruling out his selection as your 2nd ruck. You heard it here first! Well, not actually first, the linked story is dated 4 days ago. But The Rushed BEhind's regular source for AFL injury news www.injuryupdate.com.au still has him listed as "maybe right for round 1". Time to find a new injury source me thinks...

Prestigiacomo - I Will Win The Dream Team Premiership!

In an exclusive interview with The Rushed Behind today, perennial Dream Team dud Simon Prestigiacomo announced a change in his game plan starting this year. "Presti" noted that despite his Collingwood side playing in the final of the NAB Cup tonight, they are not in a position to challenge Hawthorn or Geelong within next few years. Presti explained, "I'm 31 now, and I'm running out of time to play in a flag. I figure the best chance I've got of winning one is to change my focus. If I give 110% to the task of winning an AFL Dream Team Premiership, then I might be able to influence the results my way and come home with the title." It is clear that on current form, no Dream Team with "Presti" would stand a chance as he has provided an average rating under 35 for the past 5 years and only played 2 games last year. However, Simon seems determined to change this side of his game, announcing that "No one else will pick me in their teams. So if I can score big and help some of my Collingwood and Dream Team team mates score well too I should be in with a chance." Presti has assembled a fearsome collection of football minds to help him with his task, announcing that Swans stars Tadgh Kennelly and Nick Fosdike retired to accept better offers as assistant coaches to Presti. He noted "Sydney players traditionally score poorly due to their defensive gameplans. But if I can encourage them to change this, there could be some Dream Team gold there. I wanted them to keep playing, but they gave some horseshit excuses about morals. There's just no place for these things in a winning Dream Team side." At this stage The Rushed Behind tried to get a comment from Simon about the rumours surrounding Daniel Merrett and Matt Egan and their potential signings as playing assistants to his team. However, Presti would not be drawn on the issue, only saying "It would be illegal for players on different teams to collude to help one of them win a premiership. That is match fixing and frowned upon by the AFL.". He did however note that "It would be so much easier if there was a decent Serie A Dream Team, everyone there is so much more open to this kind of thing." So what does the future hold for Prestigiacomo? He reckons "I'll be playing like Joel Bowden for the next few years, maybe until 2013 so that I can play with the new Gold Coast and Western Sydney teams, lots of Dream Team potential there and then retire to become a full-time Dream Team Coach." The Rushed Behind is scared by what this may mean for the league and the future of other leagues once Presti Enterprises gets into full swing.

Presti also said "Its not too late to join the Rushed Behind Dream Team league, the number is 135697. I'll be there!"

An Open Letter to Test Cricket Curators

Dear Sir,
A test match is supposed to be over with around 40 wickets taken within 5 days. Timeless tests went out long ago and frankly, with some of the pitches being prepared in Pakistan and the West Indies a timeless test at the moment could take a month. We simply cannot risk crictical players being absent from the IPL (and the huge $ they would make) because they are still playing, batting at 2/2222 (Ritchie Benaud will be missed) on the twentieth day of a test match (in reply to 10345 by their opposition in the first innings). At Bridgetown at stumps on day 4, the combined total from England and the West Indies is 15/1355, meaning an average score of 90 runs per wicket. This despite England's batsmen blatantly failing to convert centuries into double hundreds . From 4 test, there has only been one result so far, with odds of 1/16 on being quoted for the draw in 4th test and only one game left in the series. This includes the debacle at North Sound where only 1.4 overs were bowled. Seriously, the West Indies must been smoking a lot of weed over the past few weeks, because that is the only way curators could have got their job so badly wrong. On the subcontinent the pitches aren't much better with the Karachi test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka just finishing giving a total score of 18/1553 and an average per wicket of 86. This was improved by the 5/144 Sri Lankan 2nd innings on the last day when nothing was at stake and a result was almost impossible.

However, I implore you to head to South Africa for some advice. The test in Johannesberg between the host nation and Australia has yielded 32/1071 in 4 days despite losing time due to local weather conditions. An average of 33 will keep the bowlers in business and the seaming pitch has resulted in what should be an enthralling final day, with any of the three results still quite possible. So learn from your many mistakes and prepare your pitches to have some spice (even if the Poms get rolled for 51) and take a bit of spin. Most of all, lay off the drugs. At least while you are trying to prepare a test standard pitch.

From The Rushed Behind

PS. Keep the tame pitches for 20/20 games!
